My evaporative unit runs but doesn't cool. Why?
Almost always water, not the fan. If the pads are not being properly wet you get plenty of airflow and no cooling at all. The usual causes are a seized supply tap, a blocked inlet filter, a stuck float or a dump valve that will not seal so the tray never fills. All of it is plumbing, and all of it is fixable.
There's water running down my roof. Is that the air conditioner?
Very likely. A stuck float lets the tray overflow, and that water goes straight onto the roof and into the gutters, or through a ceiling if it finds a way in. It is worth dealing with quickly, because the damage it causes usually costs more than the repair.
When should I get it serviced?
